- Official name
- Renmin University of China (中国人民大学), Beijing. The first New-Type Regular University founded by the Communist Party of China; a national key university in every round of state designation since 1950, one of the first batch of Project 985 and Project 211 universities, and in the first group admitted to the national World-Class Universities and Disciplines list in 2017. Its teaching locations are the Zhongguancun, Tongzhou and Suzhou campuses.
- CSC agency code
- 10002 — stated verbatim in the university's own 2026 bachelor's brochure: 「申请人须登录“中国政府奖学金来华留学管理信息系统”(https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn)申请“丝绸之路”项目(Type B),我校的机构代码为“10002”」 and repeated in the 2026 master's brochure as 「我校的机构代码为“10002”」 and in the English 2026 Global Talents Program Application Guide as "The Agency Number of Renmin University of China is 10002." Applicants select programme category Type B in the CSC system.
- Application fee
- CNY 800 per application, paid in the university's own application system at https://international.ruc.edu.cn/application and not refunded once paid (申请费为 800 元人民币,费用一经缴纳不予退还). An application counts as successfully submitted only when the fee has been paid, and the university warns that the fee must never be paid to any individual or unofficial account.
- Bachelor's tuition
- CNY 24,000 per year for most humanities and social science majors, CNY 26,000 per year for economics, finance, law, journalism and communication, international politics, diplomacy, business administration and agricultural economics, and CNY 30,000 per year for the School of Arts. Bachelor's programmes run four years.
- Master's tuition
- CNY 28,000 per year for most humanities majors and CNY 32,000 per year for economics, finance, law, journalism, international relations, sociology and international business; the Master's in Design is CNY 30,000 per year and the Master's in Carbon Economy is CNY 148,000 per year over a two-year programme. Master's programmes run two or three years.
- Bachelor's application window
- Online application 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026; qualification review 2 January 2026 to 10 April 2026; academic assessment April to May 2026; admission results May to June 2026; enrolment in late August or early September 2026. Applications received after the qualification-review closing date are not accepted, and the review period includes time for applicants to resubmit material that failed the first check.
- Master's application window
- Online application 28 November 2025 to 31 March 2026, with qualification review from 29 November 2025 to 10 April 2026. Applicants for the CSC High-Level Postgraduate Program had to complete registration in the university system by 15 February 2026, with qualification review closing 27 February 2026.
- English-taught programme window
- Online application to 31 March 2026; school and college review January to June 2026; admission results published March to July 2026; the same 15 February 2026 cut-off applied to Chinese Government Scholarship Type B High-Level Postgraduate applicants.
- CSC Type A route
- Country Bilateral Program (Type A) applicants apply through the dispatching authority in their own country, such as a Chinese embassy or consulate, which publishes the governing deadline. They register in the CSC information system at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn, choose Type A, and must put Renmin University of China as their first choice under intended institution. Candidates funded by the China Scholarship Council and referred to the university must still pass the university's qualification review and academic assessment before being offered a place.
- CSC Type B routes
- The university accepts applications for the Chinese Government Scholarship Type B High-Level Postgraduate Program and the Silk Road Program. Applicants file in the CSC information system at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn under Type B with agency code 10002, and the final admission list is issued by the China Scholarship Council.
- Language requirement — bachelor's
- HSK Level 4 at 180 or above for the Chinese Language major; HSK Level 6 at 180 or above for all other humanities and social science majors; HSK Level 5 at 210 or above for science and engineering majors. Exemption may be requested by native Chinese speakers and by applicants whose previous or current degree was taught in Chinese, on submission of the relevant proof.
- HSK report rule
- HSK reports are valid for two years and the original must be sent directly to the university by Chinese Testing International; the university does not accept an HSK report submitted by the applicant personally. Applicants request this service at https://www.chinesetest.cn.
- Financial capacity requirement
- Applicants must show the applicant's or guarantor's financial capacity, including an employment and income certificate and a bank deposit certificate of no less than CNY 30,000 or the equivalent in foreign currency (银行存款证明(不少于 3 万元的人民币或等额外币)).
- Passport validity and no-change rule
- Bachelor's applicants must hold an ordinary passport valid no earlier than 31 March 2027, and applicants already in China must also supply a valid Chinese residence permit. From the date of application until three months after enrolment, applicants may not change their passport or basic personal information such as name, sex, date of birth, nationality or passport number; doing so without the university's written consent means the university will not process enrolment registration.
- CSCA requirement
- Every bachelor's applicant must sit the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) organised by the China Scholarship Council under the Ministry of Education and submit the score report. Test subjects by major are listed in the 2026 undergraduate programme catalogue, and dates and registration are at https://www.csca.cn.
- Nationality documents
- Applicants who held foreign nationality from birth with one or both parents being Chinese citizens, or who were formerly mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan residents and later acquired foreign nationality, must meet Ministry of Education document 教外函〔2020〕12号 and provide the related proof. Whether an applicant holds both foreign and Chinese nationality is decided by the Chinese public security authorities. The university does not accept applicants holding a PRC Travel Document, a PRC Exit-Entry Permit, a Home Return Permit for Hong Kong or Macao Residents, a Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents or a Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan Residence Permit as international students.
- Guardianship for minors
- Applicants under 18 — counted from 1 September 2008 — whose parents do not reside permanently in China must submit a notarised guardianship document appointing a guardian in China.
- Compulsory insurance
- International students must buy comprehensive medical insurance for studying in China under Ministry of Education rules, through http://www.lxbx.net. Students who fail to buy medical insurance as required will not be registered by the university.
- Visa and residence permit
- Admitted students apply for an X1 visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate using the university's admission notice and the JW201/202 Foreign Study Personnel Confirmation Form, and must apply to the university to convert the X1 visa into a study-type residence permit within 30 days of arriving in China.
- Annual application-fee system maintenance
- The university's Important Notice states that the online application and payment functions of the international student application system are unavailable daily from 23:00 to 01:30 for financial-system maintenance, and were additionally closed from 22:00 on 28 December 2025 to 00:00 on 1 January 2026.
- Anti-fraud notice
- The university states that it has never established any cooperative relationship with an intermediary or third-party company for international student admissions, that all admissions information is released only through its official channels, that it collects no agency fee or guarantee deposit of any kind, and that no application fee should ever be paid to an individual or unofficial account.
- Institutional standing
- As of May 2025 the university had partnerships with 316 universities and international organisations in 63 countries and regions, has taken part in building seven overseas Confucius Institutes, and has established the China-Greece Centre for Civilisation Mutual Learning together with joint centres for civilisational exchange with France, Hungary, Africa, Spain and Brazil. Its stated disciplinary aim is a distinctive humanities and social sciences profile across a leading Marxist discipline, outstanding humanities, top-tier social sciences, new-quality science and engineering, and innovative interdisciplinary fields.

- Accommodation
- The university offers on-campus accommodation for new students in single and twin rooms, booked in advance; conditions and the booking procedure are set out in the Room Reservation Form issued before enrolment. Enquiries to telephone 86-10-62511395 or LGIA@ruc.edu.cn. Students living off campus must register their address with the local public security authority within 24 hours of moving in.
- Medical insurance
- Comprehensive medical insurance for studying in China is compulsory for every international student under Ministry of Education rules, arranged through http://www.lxbx.net. The university states that students who do not buy medical insurance as required will not be registered.
