Scholarship terms, explained

Use these definitions to read guides and official notices. A current university or authority notice controls your application.

CSC / CGS: China Scholarship Council / Chinese Government Scholarship. CSC administers the government scholarship; the current notice for your route controls eligibility, benefits, and dates.
CGSIS: The online Chinese Government Scholarship application system. Use the official CSC link and keep a copy of your submitted application.
Type A: A route through a dispatching authority, such as the authority named by a Chinese embassy or national education agency. Its notice sets the steps and deadline.
Type B: A route through a host university that publishes a current Chinese Government Scholarship call. Confirm the program, agency number, and portal order with that university.
Type C: A route through another CSC-designated agency or specific program. Follow that program's own instructions.
Agency number: The code used to identify the receiving authority or university in CGSIS. A university's Type B code is not automatically the correct Type A code.
CSCA: China Scholastic Competency Assessment. Check the current bachelor's notice for required subjects, score validity, and submission dates.
JW201 / JW202: Visa application forms issued through different admission or funding channels. Use the form named in your admission documents and current visa instructions.
ISO: International Students Office: the university team that handles international admission and student support. Universities may use a different English office name.
HSK: Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì, the Chinese language proficiency test. The required level depends on the program and intake.
