Application timing and source scope

Tongji University publishes a dated admissions calendar on its International Students Office site (study.tongji.edu.cn, 申请信息汇总). For the 2026 autumn intake beginning August-September 2026, undergraduate degree applicants applying for the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship or as self-funded students had a window of 10 January 2026 to 31 March 2026, so that round closed on 31 March 2026. Postgraduate degree applicants had two separate windows: the Chinese Government Scholarship High-Level Graduate Program (高水平研究生项目) and self-funded applicants ran from 25 October 2025 to 20 December 2025, and Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, Tongji International Student Excellence Scholarship and self-funded applicants ran from 10 January 2026 to 20 March 2026 — so the CSC round closed on 20 December 2025 and the second postgraduate round on 20 March 2026. Non-degree applicants (general scholars, senior scholars, Chinese language scholars and the preparatory programme) for autumn 2026 applied from 10 January 2026 to 30 June 2026, so that round closed on 30 June 2026. For the 2026 spring intake beginning February-March 2026, non-degree applicants including Chinese language and preparatory students had a deadline of 20 December 2025, and the Tongji-Bank of China Global Elite Scholarship ran from 25 October 2025 to 20 December 2025. Tongji has also published the outcome of the 2026/2027 autumn round: between 21 and 29 May 2026 the International Students Office posted its proposed admission lists for the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship at master's/doctoral and undergraduate level and for the Tongji International Student Excellence Scholarship at undergraduate, doctoral and inter-university exchange level. The 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship page states the separate Bilateral Program (Category A) window varies by country, generally November to March, and must be filed with the applicant's own dispatching authority. The official English application calendar, checked 3 October 2026, now lists a 30 December 2026 cutoff for spring 2027 non-degree and exchange programmes. It separately gives a 20 November 2026 CSC-system deadline for ChinaLink, restricted to officially nominated exchange students from partner institutions. Exact opening dates are unstated. These notices do not establish autumn 2027 degree or High-Level Postgraduate deadlines.

Read the university's procedure
  1. 1

    Choose your program and intake

Check Tongji University's current prospectus for your degree, teaching language, eligibility and deadline. Arrange supervisor contact or pre-admission first when the program requires it.

    Read official admission instructions
  2. 2

    Prepare your documents

Use the checklist below, then compare it with your program's required documents. Prepare any signed forms, translations and referee submissions before starting the final application.

  3. 3

Follow the portal order in the Type B notice

If it asks for the CSC form in the university system, finish CSC first and upload that form. If it asks for university admission or recommendation first, complete that stage before CSC. Where both systems are required, submit to both; use a CSC-only process only when the official notice explicitly specifies it.

    Read official admission instructions
  4. 4

    Complete the required application systems

Use the university and CSC instructions below in the order specified by your program. Keep names, degree, major and teaching language consistent across the forms. Check submission status in every required system.

  5. 5

Track decisions and respond to requests

Check your portal and email for missing-document requests, interviews and results. If a form is returned, correct it and resubmit. Keep admission and scholarship decisions separate; follow the final offer for acceptance, registration and original-document checks.

Document checklist and upload instructions

Use the document list for your exact program. Prepare these common items, then add any scholarship-specific forms:

  • Identity: passport information page and photograph. Copy your name, birth date and passport number exactly into each application.
  • Education: diploma or official expected-graduation certificate, transcripts and any required degree authentication. Include the original language and certified translations where requested.
  • Language: the required HSK, IELTS, TOEFL or accepted alternative. A medium-of-instruction letter replaces a test only if the program allows it.
  • Academic materials: study plan or research proposal; graduate recommendation letters; supervisor or pre-admission letter when required. Some systems send referees a private submission link.
  • Additional requirements: CSCA results for applicable undergraduate routes; portfolio for relevant arts programs; medical form, police clearance, financial guarantee or guardian documents when listed. Check validity periods before arranging time-sensitive documents.

Scan each complete document clearly. Use the file type and size limit shown beside its upload field; combine multi-page documents only where the system permits. Open every uploaded file to check legibility, page order, signatures and stamps. Keep a copy of everything you submit.

How to fill the university application

Follow the submission method in your programme's notice. The steps below apply when it requires an online form; email and paper applications follow their separate source-linked instructions above.

  1. Open the university link for your degree level. On an admissions website, find the international-student application entry, then register or sign in. Button names vary between systems.
  2. Choose the correct entry year, degree, teaching language and program. Read its requirements before selecting your funding option.
  3. Enter personal information as it appears in your passport. List education and employment dates accurately, and enter a reliable email address.
  4. Complete the study plan and referee fields. Upload each document to its matching slot; enter a CSC application number only if your route asks for one.
  5. Preview the whole application. Follow the fee instructions, submit the form and check that the system acknowledges submission. Saving a draft does not submit it.
How to fill the CSC application
  1. Open the CSC portal below and register or sign in. Complete your personal details before starting the scholarship application.
  2. Select the application category specified in the current scholarship call. Type A commonly uses a dispatching authority and Type B a university; confirm the exact category and agency number in that route's current notice and check the receiving institution displayed by the system.
  3. Select the degree category, teaching language, major and study period specified by the eligible program. Keep these consistent with your university application.
  4. Upload the requested documents, review all fields and submit. Download the completed application form; sign and upload it to the university or dispatching-authority system when instructed.
  5. Save your application number and a copy of the submitted form. If you withdraw to edit, submit again before the deadline and tell the receiving office if it already began reviewing your application.

University agency number on record: 10247. For Type B, match it to Tongji University in CSC. Type A uses your dispatching authority's number instead.
