CSC vs GKS vs Türkiye Bursları vs Stipendium Hungaricum: An Honest Comparison
By CSC Path Editorial — checked against official CSC and university sources.
1.Can I apply to CSC, GKS, Türkiye Bursları and Stipendium Hungaricum at the same time?
Yes — none of these schemes forbids parallel applications elsewhere; you only choose when offers arrive. Their application windows barely overlap, and the documents are 80% shared.
A single-cycle plan for September 2027 entry: - Aug–Sep 2026: documents that every application needs — transcripts, passport, medical form, two recommendation letters, study plan. Our templates cover the recurring ones. - Sep–Oct 2026: GKS-U (if applying for undergraduate in Korea). CSC 2027–28 portals begin opening from ~October; start contacting professors for research programmes. - Nov–Jan: Stipendium Hungaricum (closes ~15 January, early afternoon CET — do not leave it to deadline day). - 10 Jan–20 Feb 2027: Türkiye Bursları. - Feb–Mar 2027: GKS-G embassy track; final CSC embassy/university deadlines.
The heavy lifting overlaps in January–March, but writing one strong study plan and adapting it four times is a fortnight of work, not four separate campaigns. Applying to all four costs nothing but time — every one of these applications is free.
2.Which scholarship has the highest monthly stipend?
GKS (Korea) — clearly the highest. Figures below are the most recently published rates as of mid-2026; always confirm against current official guidelines.
- Tuition: full waiver on all four (GKS universities top up above the cap).
- Monthly stipend: CSC — CNY 2,500 UG / 3,000 MA / 3,500 PhD (~USD 350–490). GKS — ₩900,000 UG; grad raised to ~₩1,380,000 in recent cycles (~USD 650–1,000). Türkiye Bursları — 4,500 TL UG / 6,500 TL MA / 9,000 TL PhD (lira figures revised periodically). Stipendium Hungaricum — HUF 43,700 BA/MA (~EUR 110); HUF 140,000–180,000 PhD.
- Housing: CSC — university dormitory or subsidy. GKS — not separately covered (stipend absorbs it). Türkiye — state dormitory included. Stipendium — dormitory place or ~HUF 40,000/month contribution.
- Language year: CSC — Chinese year funded when required. GKS — 1-year Korean language training built in. Türkiye — 1-year Turkish course included. Stipendium — not standard (programmes mostly English-taught).
- Health insurance: all four.
- Language of study: CSC — English or Chinese. GKS — mostly Korean after the language year; some English tracks. Türkiye — mostly Turkish after the language year; some English programmes. Stipendium — mostly English.
On monthly value, GKS is the clear leader, but Korean living costs are also the highest of the four. CSC's CNY 3,000–3,500 goes surprisingly far in second-tier Chinese cities with a free dormitory. Türkiye Bursları's lira stipend covers campus life adequately because dormitory and meals infrastructure is included, though inflation erodes it between revisions. Stipendium Hungaricum's ~EUR 110 for bachelor's and master's students is the honest weak point: it does not cover living costs in Budapest, and most scholars rely on family support or part-time work.
3.Which government scholarships cover flight tickets?
Two out of the four: - GKS — yes (arrival and return airfare). - Türkiye Bursları — yes (round-trip airfare). - CSC — no. - Stipendium Hungaricum — no.
On CSC and Stipendium Hungaricum, budget roughly USD 400–900 for a one-way ticket yourself, plus initial settling-in costs before the first stipend lands.
Application windows: - CSC ~Oct–Mar for September intake. - GKS-G embassy track ~Feb–Mar; GKS-U ~Sep–Oct. - Türkiye Bursları ~10 Jan–20 Feb. - Stipendium Hungaricum opens Nov, closes ~15 Jan.
4.Which scholarship is easiest to get?
Exact acceptance rates are not published for any of these. Directionally:
- CSC awards the largest number of scholarships across ~270+ universities, and competition varies wildly by university — see our hidden gems list for where odds are best.
- GKS graduate track offers roughly 2,000 seats worldwide and is highly competitive, with per-country embassy quotas.
- Türkiye Bursları receives enormous application volumes (widely cited estimates put success in the low single digits — treat that as an estimate).
- Stipendium Hungaricum allocates several thousand awards through country quotas negotiated bilaterally; applicants from partner countries with large quotas (including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Nigeria) often find it the most attainable of the four.
Which suits which profile: - Strong grades, want maximum funding and can commit to a new language: GKS. The language year is mandatory for most tracks — treat Korean as part of the deal. - Research-focused, STEM, want supervisor-driven admission and the widest choice of programmes in English: CSC. Start with the 7-step guide and check your fit with the eligibility assessment. - Undergraduate applicant, want dorm-and-meals structure and a Muslim-majority environment: Türkiye Bursları. - Want Europe, an English-taught degree and a realistic admission chance, and have some family financial backup: Stipendium Hungaricum.
