CSC Scholarship at Shanghai University: Application Guide

Scope: Scholarships, CSC agency number, dated application windows and the application fee published by Shanghai University for its 2026 international student intake, from the university's own application portal at apply.shu.edu.cn.. CSC agency number

Shanghai University's institution code is 10280. The Chinese scholarships page states 上海大学机构代码为10280, and the application steps require applicants to log in to www.campuschina.org, select Type B, and fill in Shanghai University's institution code 10280 (填写上海大学机构代码（10280）).

CSC Type B deadline

The Chinese Government Scholarship Chinese University Program (CSC Type B) deadline is 15 February 2026: the English page states 'Deadline for application submission: February 15th, 2026' and the Chinese page states 申请截止时间：2026 年 2 月 15 日.

CSC Type B coverage

Full scholarship covering tuition, free on-campus accommodation or an off-campus housing subsidy of CNY 700 per month for master's students and CNY 1,000 per month for doctoral students, a stipend of CNY 3,000 per month for master's students and CNY 3,500 per month for doctoral students, and comprehensive medical insurance. Open to master's and doctoral programmes only; master's applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and be under 35, doctoral applicants a master's degree and under 40.

CSC Type B timeline after the deadline

Applicants complete the CSC application, obtain a pre-admission notice and pay the CNY 500 application fee at apply.shu.edu.cn; the Shanghai University Scholarship Committee then reviews the materials and determines the candidate list; the candidate list is published online in late June at apply.shu.edu.cn; the final awardee list is approved by the China Scholarship Council; and awardees pay the tuition deposit and receive official admission documents.

Shanghai Government Scholarship window and coverage

The Shanghai Government Scholarship application window ran from 20 November 2025 to 30 April 2026. The full scholarship covers tuition, free on-campus accommodation or an off-campus housing subsidy of CNY 700 per month for bachelor's and master's students and CNY 1,000 per month for doctoral students, a stipend of CNY 2,500 per month for bachelor's students, CNY 3,000 per month for master's students and CNY 3,500 per month for doctoral students, and comprehensive medical insurance. The partial scholarship covers tuition and comprehensive medical insurance only. Open to bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes; applicants apply through apply.shu.edu.cn, select the funding method and enter the SGS application code SGS2025.

Self-funded application window

The self-funded application window for the 2026 intake ran from 20 November 2025 to 30 June 2026. Successful applicants receive an admission notice within two weeks, the official admission notice is sent before 15 July 2026, and registration takes place at the end of August or the beginning of September 2026.

Application fee

The application fee is CNY 500 and is non-refundable. The English fee table lists 'Application Fee(Non-refundable) RMB: 500'; the Chinese CSC steps state 并在线支付500元报名费（不予退还）and the Shanghai Government Scholarship steps repeat 并在线支付500元报名费(不予退还). It is payable at apply.shu.edu.cn by WeChat, Alipay, the Agricultural Bank of China app or its online bank, or by bank transfer.

CSCA document deadline by applicant type

Undergraduate scholarship applicants must provide the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) transcript before 15 May; self-funded undergraduate applicants must submit it before 30 June. If the official CSCA score report is not yet available at application, a screenshot of the test registration may be uploaded as a temporary document.

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

Covers tuition, free on-campus accommodation, a stipend of CNY 2,500 per month for short-term study students and CNY 3,000 per month for master's students, and comprehensive medical insurance. Open to undergraduates, postgraduates and general scholars on the Chinese language programme, for applicants aged 16 to 35 — relaxed to 45 for those currently working in a Chinese language teaching position, with undergraduates not exceeding 20 — holding a foreign passport. Applications go through cis.chinese.cn.

Shanghai University New International Student Scholarship

A partial scholarship covering tuition, open only to master's and doctoral programmes. It includes no stipend and no comprehensive medical insurance, but students living in the appointed on-campus dormitories enjoy the scholarship-student preferential accommodation rate of CNY 700 per month for master's students and CNY 1,000 per month for doctoral students. There is no separate application: recipients are selected from applicants to the Chinese Government Scholarship Chinese University Program (CSC Type B) and the Shanghai Government Scholarship.

Language requirements

Chinese-taught programmes require HSK 4 above 180 for Chinese Language and for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at bachelor's level, HSK 5 above 180 for science, engineering, economics, management and art, and HSK 5 above 210 for humanities. Native Chinese speakers and applicants whose previous degree was fully taught in Chinese are exempt. English-taught programmes require IELTS (A) 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 or above obtained within the previous two years, with TOEFL MyBest scores accepted.

Accommodation and living costs

The fee calculator publishes single-room on-campus accommodation at CNY 51,000 per year, double-room on-campus at CNY 25,000 per year, four-bed on-campus at CNY 12,700 per year, and off-campus accommodation at CNY 30,000 per year, with students spending around CNY 35,000 yearly on average for living expenses.

Nationality and residency rules

Applicants who held international nationality at birth with one or both parents being Chinese citizens, and residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have emigrated, must present a valid passport or citizenship document attained before 30 April 2022, proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality, and proof of at least two years of residence abroad between 30 April 2022 and 30 April 2026, with nine months of residence abroad counted as one year.

Application assessment stages

Undergraduate and master's applications are assessed by document review, an online test and interviews, plus the Shanghai University Security and Background Check (SBC) for International Students, the University Qualification Assessment (UQA) and a telephone interview. Doctoral applicants additionally face an Expert Committee Interview. Master's and doctoral applicants must choose a supervisor online and be accepted by a prospective professor, except in the School of Management, School of Economics, MBA Center, SILC Business School and College of International Education.
