Donghua University (东华大学) publishes a single dated timeline for the 2026 intake, '2026学历项目 申请录取流程及时间节点', issued by its International Education Center on iec.dhu.edu.cn and dated 10 November 2025; every stage below is scoped to that intake and all times are Beijing time (GMT+8) as the notice states. The online application system at admissions.dhu.edu.cn opened at 00:00 on 1 December 2025 for master's and doctoral programmes, and at 00:00 on 1 March 2026 for bachelor's programmes. The first-stage entrance-scholarship deadline was 31 January 2026, the date by which an application had to be submitted (status '已提交') to be considered for the Chinese Government Scholarship Category Type B High Level Postgraduate Programme; the master's and doctoral fee pages likewise give 1月31日(高水平研究生奖学金项目)as the CGS-B deadline. The second-stage entrance-scholarship deadline was 15 April 2026, when all scholarship channels for bachelor's, master's and doctoral applicants closed at 18:00. The self-funded application channel for all three levels closed at 18:00 on 31 May 2026. Pre-admission notices for scholarship-supported postgraduate applicants were issued around 20 March 2026; the school's review takes 3-4 weeks and longer over the winter vacation; first-round admission results including scholarship outcomes were emailed in May 2026 and second-round results in June 2026; art examinations or interviews for design-programme applicants were held in June 2026; electronic admission materials including the Admission Notice and JW form were emailed in July 2026, and self-funded freshmen and some scholarship freshmen applied online for on-campus accommodation in July 2026; the enrolment guide was emailed at the end of August 2026 and registration took place at the end of August to early September 2026. The Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship tables on the same pages give 4月15日 (15 April) as their deadline, and the Chinese Government Scholarship Category Type A route is submitted through the applicant's own country's dispatching authority, whose deadline the notice says is governed by that authority's own publication (以所在国有关派遣部门公布为准). All of these 2026-intake windows have closed as of 29 September 2026. No 2027 intake guide or timeline has been posted: the International Education Center's notice board (iec.dhu.edu.cn/degreenotice/list.htm) shows no admissions notice newer than the 10 November 2025 timeline, its newest entries being 2026 scholarship annual-review and outstanding-graduate publication notices dated 21 May and 15 June 2026. A separate 2027 spring Chinese-language non-degree course has a published deadline of 31 December 2026; its official page does not state an opening date. This does not establish a 2027 autumn degree window. Source: https://iec.dhu.edu.cn/learnchinese/list.htm

Read the university's procedure
  1. 1

    Choose your program and intake

Check Donghua University's current prospectus for your degree, teaching language, eligibility and deadline. Arrange supervisor contact or pre-admission first when the program requires it.

    Read official admission instructions
  2. 2

    Prepare your documents

Use the checklist below, then compare it with your program's required documents. Prepare any signed forms, translations and referee submissions before starting the final application.

  3. 3

    Complete the CSC application

Use the application type, agency number, degree level, and submission order stated in the current call. A university-hosted place may use Type B; an embassy-nominated place may use Type A. Do not select a route or reuse a prior-cycle code unless the current notice confirms it.

    Open CSC portal
  4. 4

    Complete the university application

Use the official application link and complete the fields required for your route. Submit documents only through the channel and at the stage stated in the current notice. Pay a charge only when instructed; retain any submission confirmation the system provides.

  5. 5

Track decisions and respond to requests

Check your portal and email for missing-document requests, interviews and results. If a form is returned, correct it and resubmit. Keep admission and scholarship decisions separate; follow the final offer for acceptance, registration and original-document checks.

Document checklist and upload instructions

Use the document list for your exact program. Prepare these common items, then add any scholarship-specific forms:

  • Identity: passport information page and photograph. Copy your name, birth date and passport number exactly into each application.
  • Education: diploma or official expected-graduation certificate, transcripts and any required degree authentication. Include the original language and certified translations where requested.
  • Language: the required HSK, IELTS, TOEFL or accepted alternative. A medium-of-instruction letter replaces a test only if the program allows it.
  • Academic materials: study plan or research proposal; graduate recommendation letters; supervisor or pre-admission letter when required. Some systems send referees a private submission link.
  • Additional requirements: CSCA results for applicable undergraduate routes; portfolio for relevant arts programs; medical form, police clearance, financial guarantee or guardian documents when listed. Check validity periods before arranging time-sensitive documents.

Scan each complete document clearly. Use the file type and size limit shown beside its upload field; combine multi-page documents only where the system permits. Open every uploaded file to check legibility, page order, signatures and stamps. Keep a copy of everything you submit.

Application templates
How to fill the university application

Follow the submission method in your programme's notice. The steps below apply when it requires an online form; email and paper applications follow their separate source-linked instructions above.

  1. Open the university link for your degree level. On an admissions website, find the international-student application entry, then register or sign in. Button names vary between systems.
  2. Choose the correct entry year, degree, teaching language and program. Read its requirements before selecting your funding option.
  3. Enter personal information as it appears in your passport. List education and employment dates accurately, and enter a reliable email address.
  4. Complete the study plan and referee fields. Upload each document to its matching slot; enter a CSC application number only if your route asks for one.
  5. Preview the whole application. Follow the fee instructions, submit the form and check that the system acknowledges submission. Saving a draft does not submit it.

Donghua's master's guide specifies PDF documents except the ID photo. A returned application needs corrections and a fresh Submit action; read the Remarks field before resubmitting.

How to fill the CSC application
  1. Open the CSC portal below and register or sign in. Complete your personal details before starting the scholarship application.
  2. Select the application category specified in the current scholarship call. Type A commonly uses a dispatching authority and Type B a university; confirm the exact category and agency number in that route's current notice and check the receiving institution displayed by the system.
  3. Select the degree category, teaching language, major and study period specified by the eligible program. Keep these consistent with your university application.
  4. Upload the requested documents, review all fields and submit. Download the completed application form; sign and upload it to the university or dispatching-authority system when instructed.
  5. Save your application number and a copy of the submitted form. If you withdraw to edit, submit again before the deadline and tell the receiving office if it already began reviewing your application.

University agency number on record: 10255. For Type B, match it to Donghua University in CSC. Type A uses your dispatching authority's number instead.

University background, academic strengths and sources

Founded in 1951 as the East China Institute of Textile Technology (renamed Donghua University in 1999). Fields listed on this profile include College of Textiles, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Fashion and Design, College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. For 2027-2028 CSC applications, check the current university notice for eligible programs, funding categories, deadlines and required application systems before preparing documents or paying a fee.

Donghua University is one of the most distinctive CSC hosts in Shanghai because its strongest fields are tightly connected: textile science, materials, fashion, design, chemical engineering, and the business systems around manufacturing and creative industries. It is a national Double First-Class university, but its value is not simply the label. Applicants should choose Donghua when the academic specialization and Shanghai's industry setting both strengthen the proposed degree.

The 2026 High-Level Postgraduate Type B process ran earlier than many applicants expect. Candidates applied in Donghua's own system from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026, paid a nonrefundable CNY 800 fee, passed the university's academic review, obtained a pre-admission letter, and then completed the CGSIS step. The official scholarship page describes a full award for master's and doctoral study covering tuition, medical insurance, on-campus accommodation, and the standard monthly stipend. Because the pre-admission step comes before CGSIS completion, waiting until late January creates avoidable risk.

Donghua also offers the Shanghai Government Scholarship, with a later 15 April deadline for the 2026 intake, plus other international student routes. This creates a useful fallback structure, but applicants still need to choose the correct funding source and current program in the university system. The best application is not a generic Shanghai application. It should explain why Donghua's specialist strengths, a particular supervisor or program, and the applicant's intended research or career outcome belong together.

City snapshot

Climate:
Shanghai has humid, hot summers, cool damp winters, and mild spring and autumn periods.
Living costs:
Tier 1 city: daily costs are high by Chinese standards. A full scholarship's tuition and dormitory coverage materially reduces the budget pressure.
Student life:
Students gain access to Shanghai's large international community and strong fashion, manufacturing, design, and business networks, with the tradeoff of higher personal expenses.

English-taught programmes are priced separately and are materially higher than Chinese-taught ones at bachelor's and master's level. No non-degree Chinese-language-programme tuition figure appears in these tables.

Donghua University CSC scholarship FAQ

Can I apply for both CSC and the Shanghai Government Scholarship at Donghua?

Donghua's application system groups the CGS Type B and Shanghai Government Scholarship funding choice during the university application. The awards have different deadlines and selection rules, so follow the current application guide and do not assume one application guarantees consideration for every category.

What is Donghua University best for?

Donghua is most distinctive in textile science, materials, fashion and design, chemical engineering, and related management fields. Applicants in unrelated fields should compare program depth and supervisor fit with broader Shanghai universities.

Does Donghua University accept CSC Type B applications?

Donghua University appears in our directory based on prior CSC host or program evidence. For 2027-2028 Type B participation, consult the university's current international-admissions notice and confirm the application channel and Agency Number before applying.

Is the CSC scholarship at Donghua University fully funded?

A full Chinese Government Scholarship normally covers tuition, accommodation or a housing subsidy, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend. That does not prove Donghua University will offer a full Type B award in 2027-2028: some routes are partial or unavailable, so confirm the current notice and your final award letter.

What is the application deadline for Donghua University?

The latest official information checked September 29, 2026 says: Donghua University (东华大学) publishes a single dated timeline for the 2026 intake, '2026学历项目 申请录取流程及时间节点', issued by its International Education Center on iec.dhu.edu.cn and dated 10 November 2025; every stage below is scoped to that intake and all times are Beijing time (GMT+8) as the notice states. Source: https://iec.dhu.edu.cn/learnchinese/list.htm Check the current notice for your degree, route, and intake before applying.

What can I study at Donghua University on a CSC scholarship?

Fields listed for Donghua University in Shanghai include College of Textiles, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Fashion and Design, College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.
