English-Taught Engineering & CS in China: Verified Programs

Official pages confirm a clear pattern: Engineering and CS in English are broad at master's and doctoral level, while bachelor's options stay limited.

Tsinghua lists 28 English-taught master's and 9 English doctoral programs, mostly in engineering and natural science (official list). USTB reports only 2 English bachelor's programs among about 60. The practical implication is this: if your budget needs CSC-level funding, the master's shortlist is much longer; for English bachelor's, the practical list is short and mostly self-funded.

At the top tier, official admissions pages show:

• Tsinghua: English master's in Advanced Computing, Electronic and Information Engineering, Data Science (Shenzhen), and Global Manufacturing. CSC funding is channelled through the graduate scholarship process (official).
• SJTU engineering cluster: the undergraduate English pathway is through UM-SJTU Joint Institute and includes CS, ECE, mechanical engineering and others. Tuition is about ¥80,000/year, TOEFL at least 84 or IELTS at least 6.0 (official).
• Zhejiang University: a dedicated English master's catalog, with CSC Type B eligibility and the 2026 intake deadline listed for December 31 (official guide).
• HIT (Harbin Institute of Technology): English master tracks in fields including Materials, Civil, Mechanical, Electronics, Chemical Engineering, and Management, with fees at ¥34,000/year and TOEFL at least 80 or IELTS at least 6.0 (official).

From mid-tier options with stronger feasibility:

• NUIST (Nanjing): English bachelor's in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electronic Information Engineering, plus English master's in AI and Information & Communication Engineering (official list). CSC is available in postgraduate routes; undergrads can use other scholarships.
• Jiangsu University: around eight English engineering bachelor's fields such as CS, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, and Vehicle engineering, with fees around ¥20,000/year (official catalog).
• BIT (Beijing): English bachelor's in Aerospace, Automation, CS, Mechatronics, and AI at Zhuhai with fees around ¥30,000/year and IELTS at least 6.0. BIT's own FAQ states CSC at UG level is only for Chinese-taught programs (official).
• USTB: English bachelor's in Materials Science and Environmental Engineering, ¥23,300/year, IELTS 5.5, and Type A plus Type B CSC options appear in official channel notes (official).

Across the verified examples above, the practical funding matrix is:

• English master's and PhD programs: CSC Type B is widely available when the university confirms it.
• English bachelor's programs: CSC is usually unavailable, and universities often require self-funded tuition planning.

BIT explicitly notes undergraduate CSC is only for Chinese-taught programs. University-level scholarships are your strongest path for English bachelor's, with city or regional awards as a second layer.

If you want language-funded continuity and are okay with Chinese-medium entry, consider the funded language-year route and then transition into your target field (foundation-year guide).

For alternatives when Type B is not available, check university scholarships and Belt & Road or city scholarships.

The official requirements vary by school and level, but the current verified range is roughly:

• IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 for schools like USTB, BIT, and HIT depending on program.
• TOEFL 90 and IELTS 6.5 for many programs that use higher English thresholds.
