CSC Scholarship at Huazhong University of Science and Technology: Application Guide

Application fee

CNY 600 or USD 100, non-refundable, payable by China UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay or international bank card (VISA/Mastercard); the ISO Payment Guidelines page states '1. Application Fee: 600RMB/100USD' and the 2026 graduate guide sets the payment deadline at March 1st, 2026. The Type A Bilateral Program is applied for through the home-country dispatching authority and is described as 'Free for application' at HUST.

CSC institution code

HUST's CSC agency number is 10487 for Type B; the ISO 'Scholarship Information and Tips' page lists 'Type B 10487' under 'Program Category & Agency No.' and the 2026 graduate admission guide repeats 'Agency No. 10487'. Type A applicants are told to consult the dispatching authorities for the agency number.

Application window

The 2026 graduate application period ran from October 15th, 2025 to March 1st, 2026, and the ISO FAQ (2026) gives the same window for Chinese Government Scholarship Type B: 'Applicants for Type B should submit the application between October 15th, 2025 and March 1st, 2026.' Both have closed.

Tuition

Annual tuition (CNY/year): master's Chinese-taught 30,000 for engineering, science, economics and management, 25,000 for literature, law and education and 40,000 for medicine; master's English-taught 38,000 and 33,000; doctoral Chinese-taught 42,000, 30,000 and 50,000; doctoral English-taught 50,000 and 38,000. Chinese-language course tuition is 7,500 CNY per semester or 15,000 CNY per year.

Scholarship coverage

The Chinese Government Scholarship at HUST covers tuition, accommodation, stipend and medical insurance, as stated in the 2026 graduate admission guide's '➭Scholarship' section.

Accommodation

On-campus housing costs CNY 1,200-1,400 per month for a single room and CNY 700-900 per month per person for a double room, with water, electricity and internet charged separately.

Medical insurance

Comprehensive medical insurance costs CNY 800 per year for international students.

Entry requirements

Master's applicants need a bachelor's degree and must be under 35; doctoral applicants need a master's degree and must be under 40. Chinese-taught programmes require HSK 4 (at least 180) for science, engineering and medicine or HSK 5 (at least 180, or 200 for Union Hospital) for economics, management, literature, law and education; English-taught programmes require TOEFL at least 80, IELTS at least 6.0 or GRE at least 310.

Scholarship applicant grade standard

Scholarship applicants are generally expected to hold a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, 3.75/5.0 or 75%, with the university noting that these are basic standards and not the admission criteria of individual schools and departments.

Silk Road Program window and coverage

The 2026 Silk Road CSC guide gives 'Application Deadline: May 20, 2026', agency number 10487, coverage of a tuition waiver, accommodation, a stipend of CNY 2,500 per month and comprehensive medical insurance of CNY 800 per year, Chinese-taught instruction and an HSK 4 requirement of at least 180, for designated countries including Russia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan.

Other application windows

Undergraduate programmes for 2026 ran from October 15, 2025 to June 15, 2026; the Chinese Language Program spring intake closed on December 15th, 2025 and the autumn intake on June 15th, 2026; the on-campus Foundation Program ran from October 15, 2025 to January 10, 2026 with a second intake from February 27, 2026 to July 15, 2026; the Type A EU Window Scholarship, agency number 00006, closed on February 1, 2026.

Tuition by level

Annual tuition (CNY/year): master's Chinese-taught 30,000 for engineering, science, economics and management, 25,000 for literature, law and education and 40,000 for medicine; doctoral Chinese-taught 42,000, 30,000 and 50,000; English-taught master's 38,000 and 33,000 and doctoral 50,000 and 38,000. Undergraduate: Chinese-taught 25,000, 18,000 and 33,000; English-taught MBBS 40,000, pharmacy 35,000 and engineering 30,000. Chinese-language course tuition is 7,500 CNY per semester or 15,000 CNY per year.

Additional charges

Residence permit application is 400 to 800 CNY per year, physical examination 500 CNY, textbooks 600 CNY per year, water, electricity and internet 1,000 to 3,000 CNY per year, and deferring tuition payment by more than one month incurs a late fee of 5% of the tuition.

Type A fee exemption

The Type A Bilateral Program is applied for through the dispatching authority in the applicant's home country rather than through HUST, and the ISO page describes it as 'Free for application' with the instruction not to apply to HUST or the China Scholarship Council; for Type A the agency number must be obtained from the dispatching authorities, not from HUST.

Scholarships not published by HUST

No HUST official page read names a Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship or an ANSO scholarship for international students, so neither is claimed. HUST's own international-student award is an in-course recognition scheme under the university document 国教〔2025〕1号 (academic excellence, study progress, leadership and volunteering categories), not an entry scholarship, and it publishes no monetary amount.

Annual tuition from the ISO graduate guide's 'Tuition (CNY/Year)' table, the 2026 undergraduate guide and the School of International Education programme page (sie.hust.edu.cn/gjxszs/zsxm.htm). Chinese-language course tuition is 7,500 CNY per semester or 15,000 CNY per year, the on-campus Foundation Program is 17,500 CNY, and the SIE page also lists senior scholar tuition of 42,000 CNY/year (Chinese-taught, engineering, science, economics and management) and general scholar tuition of 25,000-30,000 CNY/year. The guide notes separately that the China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy master's is 40,000 CNY/year and the Executive MBA is 324,000 CNY over two years. One official inconsistency is recorded rather than resolved: the English table on the graduate guide shows no medicine figure for English-taught master's and doctoral programmes, while the Chinese text on the same page states 48,000 CNY/year (3 years) and 58,000 CNY/year respectively. None of these is an application fee.

Accommodation

CNY 1,200-1,400 per month for a single room and CNY 700-900 per month per person for a double room, from the 2026 graduate admission guide; the ISO Payment Guidelines page gives single room 1,200 RMB/month and double room 700 RMB/month/person. Water, electricity and internet are charged separately by the Room Service Center.

Medical insurance

CNY 800 per year for comprehensive medical insurance, stated on both the ISO Payment Guidelines page and the 2026 graduate admission guide's 'Other expenses for reference' list.

Textbook costs

CNY 600 per year for textbooks (Text Books: 600 CNY/year). This is a separate study cost; no separately priced registration charge is established by this item.

Residence permit

CNY 400 per year on the ISO Payment Guidelines page; the 2026 graduate admission guide lists residence permit application at CNY 400-800 per year.

Physical examination

CNY 500 (at most) on the ISO Payment Guidelines page, given as CNY 500 in the 2026 graduate admission guide.

Entry requirements

Language: Chinese-taught graduate programmes require HSK 4 with a score of at least 180 for science, engineering and medicine, HSK 5 with at least 180 for economics, management, literature, law, education and Tongji Hospital, and HSK 5 with at least 200 for Union Hospital. English-taught graduate programmes require TOEFL at least 80, IELTS at least 6.0 or GRE at least 310; equivalent certificates are accepted, and applicants whose prior teaching language was Chinese or English do not need to provide a language certificate. Undergraduate programmes are lower: HSK 4 (at least 180) for science, engineering and medicine and HSK 5 (at least 180) for economics, management, literature, education, philosophy, arts, law and the School of Artificial Intelligence on the Chinese-taught route, and TOEFL at least 80 or IELTS at least 5.5 on the English-taught route; the Chinese version of the same undergraduate guide adds Duolingo 110, which does not appear in its English text. The Silk Road Program requires HSK 4 with at least 180.. Age: Applicants for master's programmes must be under 35; applicants for doctoral programmes must be under 40.. Required degree: Master's applicants must have been conferred a bachelor's degree and doctoral applicants a master's degree, equivalent to the corresponding Chinese degree; undergraduate applicants must be graduating high school students or hold a senior high school diploma. Current students may submit an enrolment certificate, but the required degree certificate must be presented at registration. General scholars must be under 45 and senior scholars under 50.. Financial guarantee: Self-funded applicants must supply a financial certification or bank statement of at least USD 5,000. Scholarship applicants generally need a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, 3.75/5.0 or 75% per the graduate guide, while the ISO scholarship FAQ states 3.0/4, 3.75/5 or 70/100; the university notes these are basic standards and not the admission criteria of individual schools and departments.

Ten named entries appear in the profile. Graduate Type B and undergraduate Silk Road terms are separate; the latter does not establish general undergraduate CSC eligibility. Do not show graduate stipend/coverage as a blanket HUST undergraduate award.

Application fee by route

The CNY 600 fee applies to the recorded 2026 graduate application route. The separately recorded Type A Bilateral guidance says free for application; do not apply the graduate fee to that route.
