On the discipline side, it is the real thing: one of China's 老八校 architecture schools, with a department descending from Northeastern University's 1928 architecture faculty, relocated to Xi'an in the 1956 reorganization. Its architecture and built environment work is ranked internationally in QS's subject tables, and its structural engineering, environmental engineering and architectural design theory programs have all held national key discipline status. It sits in a city that is effectively a working laboratory for heritage conservation and urban design. On the paperwork side, it is a provincially administered university, the only member of the Old Eight without Double First-Class status, and it is not visible on published Chinese Government Scholarship host lists for Shaanxi.

That second point is the practical crux for anyone searching for an XAUAT scholarship. The university publishes its financial aid clearly and consistently across its Chinese and English pages, and the list is five items long: the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, the Shaanxi provincial Sanqin Scholarship, the Xi'an municipal 'Belt and Road' Scholarship, the Xi'an 'Five Central Asian Countries' program scholarship, and XAUAT's own university scholarship. The Chinese Government Scholarship never appears. None of the awards that do appear is a full CSC-equivalent package. The Sanqin award requires a year of prior enrolment before you are even eligible, and the Xi'an municipal award covers only the first year at rates that roughly track tuition rather than covering tuition plus accommodation plus stipend. XAUAT's international cohort is a few hundred students out of roughly 36,000 total, drawn heavily from Central Asia, so this is a Chinese-language campus with an international layer rather than an internationalised one. Who should look elsewhere? Someone whose plan depends on a full CSC package, or on studying Architecture itself in English at bachelor level, since neither is confirmed available. Before committing, do two things in writing: get a named coordinator to confirm the language of instruction for your exact program, and get a direct answer on CGS status and agency number rather than trusting an agency site's reprinted institution code.
