Does CSC Scholarship Require a Bank Statement?

A bank statement is not a universal CSC document, but a university or visa office may require financial evidence for its own stage.
1.Does a CSC scholarship application require a bank statement?
Not as a universal Chinese Government Scholarship document. The current 2026 Bilateral Program guide lists the application form, passport, education records, language evidence, admission material, study plan, recommendations where applicable, medical form and police certificate without naming a bank statement. The Chongqing government's 2026 CGS supporting-document list follows the same pattern.
That does not mean every applicant can omit financial evidence. A university, dispatching authority or visa office may publish an additional requirement for its own stage. Use the general CSC list as a baseline, then check every controlling notice in your route.
2.Why do some CSC applicants still see a bank-statement field?
The CSC system and a university admission system can apply different checklists. Shanghai University of Political Science and Law includes Chinese Government Scholarship options in its 2026 admission guide, while its required-document table asks for either a financial-support guarantee letter or a personal bank statement (SHUPL 2026 guide).
This is a university admission requirement, not proof of a universal CSC rule. Follow the CSC and university portal-order guide and satisfy each system's current checklist instead of copying the uploads from one portal into another.
3.Can a university require financial support from scholarship applicants?
Yes. Donghua University's 2026 bachelor's guide says scholarship applicants must also submit its Statement of Financial Support, signed by a financial guarantor, to cover costs outside the scholarship scope (Donghua University guide). Xiamen University's 2026 guide for its Chinese International Education College likewise requires a Financial Support Guarantee Statement and supporting documents and states that scholarship applicants are not exempt (Xiamen University guide).
These examples do not create one rule for all universities or CSC programs. They show why the exact university, college, degree and intake notice must control your file.
4.What should you upload when financial evidence is requested?
Use the format named by the receiving institution. SHUPL's 2026 table accepts a financial-support guarantee letter or personal bank statement and asks for the guarantor's passport information page. Xiamen University's guide asks for its Financial Support Guarantee Statement and supporting documents. Neither instruction should be replaced with an unrelated online template.
Check whose name must appear, whether a sponsor is allowed, which supporting identity document is needed, the accepted issue date and language, and whether the university provides its own form. Keep the details consistent with the CSC scholarship application form and any second portal.
5.Is there a fixed bank-balance minimum for every CSC applicant?
No universal CSC application balance is stated in the current general document lists reviewed here. SHUPL asks for a guarantee letter or bank statement without publishing a fixed balance in its required-document table. Xiamen University's guide requires a financial-support statement and supporting documents without turning another country's visa threshold into its admission rule.
Do not copy a currency amount from an agent, another university or a Chinese embassy serving a different country. If your current notice gives a minimum, period or account-holder rule, follow that notice and retain the source page with your application records.
6.Will you need a bank statement for the X1 visa after a CSC award?
That depends on the Chinese embassy or visa office serving your location. The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan's 2025 X1 instructions require evidence of scholarship issuance or proof of financial resources of US$2,500 per academic year. The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh's 2025 instructions tell scholarship-supported X1 applicants to provide relevant proof, while self-funded applicants submit a bank statement showing at least US$2,500 for each year of study.
These are country-specific visa examples, not scholarship-application balances. After selection, check the current visa post again and make sure your scholarship evidence, admission letter and JW201 or JW202 funding details agree. The X1 and X2 visa guide explains the later visa sequence.
7.What should you check before submitting financial documents?
Read four sources in order: the current scholarship-route notice, the university or college admission guide, every portal's upload list and, after an award, the visa checklist for your location. If any one of them requests a statement or guarantee, use its current format and keep the applicant, sponsor, account and passport details consistent. Do not upload altered evidence or claim funds that are not available.
