Does CSC Scholarship Cover Airfare?

Airfare depends on the CSC route. Current official notices show both self-funded travel and country-specific flight benefits.
1.Does the CSC scholarship cover airfare?
Not automatically. Airfare depends on the scholarship route and the current notice that governs your award. Beijing Foreign Studies University's 2026/27 Chinese Government Scholarship University Postgraduate Program calls itself a full scholarship but says applicants bear their own travel expenses (BFSU 2026/27 guide). Indonesia's 2026/27 Type A notice also describes a full scholarship while expressly excluding international travel expenses (Chinese Embassy in Indonesia).
There are route-specific exceptions. The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh included international round-trip airfare in its 2026/27 Type A coverage (Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh). This means "full scholarship" alone does not answer the flight question. Read the coverage section of your own notice and final award.
2.What does a standard full CSC scholarship usually cover?
Current official guides commonly list four items: tuition, university accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, a monthly stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. Beijing Language and Culture University's 2026 Bilateral Program guide lists those benefits for its Type A route (BLCU 2026 guide). Communication University of China's current admissions Q&A lists the same four items for full CSC awards under its Type A and Type B routes (CUC admissions Q&A).
Do not treat an omitted item as funded. If airfare, a settlement allowance, visa costs or travel reimbursement is not stated in the controlling notice or award documents, ask the responsible authority in writing and budget as though you will pay it yourself.
3.Can a Type A CSC scholarship include flights?
Yes, but Type A does not create one worldwide airfare rule. Bangladesh's embassy notice included international round-trip airfare for its 2026/27 Type A award, while Indonesia's notice for the same academic cycle expressly excluded international travel expenses. Both were official country routes, yet their travel coverage differed.

4.Does a Type B university scholarship pay for airfare?
Do not assume it does. BFSU's current University Postgraduate Program says travel expenses are borne by applicants. Zhejiang University of Science and Technology's 2026 Silk Road Type B notice lists tuition, on-campus accommodation, a monthly living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance as its full-scholarship package, without listing airfare or travel reimbursement (ZUST 2026 notice).
A different university or named program may publish different terms. Check the current university notice for your intake and program, then compare it with the admission letter and scholarship award documents. A general CSC benefits page cannot add a flight benefit that your controlling documents do not provide.
5.Which China scholarship routes can include airfare?
Some named routes do. Bangladesh's current Type A arrangement includes international round-trip airfare. The Ministry of Commerce Scholarship is another example: Communication University of China's 2026 admissions Q&A says its MOFCOM award includes one international round-trip airfare for arrival and return after graduation, with an additional family-visit flight application possible for a two-year program (CUC MOFCOM coverage).
MOFCOM is a distinct program with its own eligibility and application authority. Its flight benefit does not transfer to an ordinary Type A or Type B CSC award. Compare named programs through the scholarships hub, then verify the current notice before relying on any travel benefit.
6.How should I confirm airfare and plan my budget?
Check three documents in order: the current embassy, dispatching-authority or university notice; your formal scholarship award; and the host university's arrival instructions. Look for who buys the ticket, whether reimbursement is allowed, which journey is covered, any booking approval requirement and when payment occurs. Keep written confirmation if the wording is unclear. Do not buy a nonrefundable ticket on the assumption that "fully funded" means flights are included.
