Fully Funded Scholarships in China: The Complete 2027 List

Seven scholarship families may offer full awards in China. They are listed by route, not ranked by unpublished applicant or award totals:

• CSC / Chinese Government Scholarship: a full award normally covers tuition, accommodation or a housing subsidy, a CNY 2,500 to 3,500 monthly stipend, and medical insurance. Host, degree, program and deadline rules depend on the current route notice.
• Silk Road / Belt & Road Scholarship: universities publish separate country, program, coverage and deadline rules for their current Belt and Road routes.
• MOFCOM Scholarship: current calls commonly target eligible professionals and route applications through the authority or Chinese mission named in the notice.
• ANSO Scholarship: USTC and UCAS publish the eligible degrees, stipend, coverage and deadline in each current call.
• International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: supports eligible Chinese-language and teaching-related programs under the current center, institution and intake rules.
• Provincial & city government scholarships: coverage and eligibility vary by province, city, university and intake; never assume two awards can be combined.
• University scholarships: university notices range from partial tuition awards to full packages and control how and when students apply.

Start with the CSC. The Chinese Government Scholarship funds degree study at designated Chinese host institutions through routes commonly described as Type A through a dispatching authority or embassy, Type B through a university, and Type C for other programs. Alternative routes: university and provincial scholarships. They can widen the funding options beyond CSC, but comparable application and award totals are rarely published, so no route should be labelled the easiest. Best stipend: ANSO for PhD. Up to CNY 7,000 per month at USTC and UCAS beats the CSC PhD stipend of CNY 3,500, if your field fits and you can meet the late-January deadline.

You may be able to apply to several programs, but confirm the application and concurrent-funding rules for each one:

• Within the CSC system, use the current CGSIS instructions and each route notice to confirm available applications and institution preferences.
• A university may let you request Silk Road, provincial, or university funding in the same admission form, but only when its current notice says so.
• ANSO, MOFCOM and the language-teacher scholarship run on separate portals with separate deadlines.
• University scholarships may be automatic or require a separate selection, form, or deadline.

Do not assume that separate portals mean awards can be held together. Read the current terms and disclose other applications or funding when a form asks.

Requirements differ across the seven scholarship families, but these are useful checks:

• Age: current CSC notices generally use under 25 for bachelor's, under 35 for master's, and under 40 for PhD applicants. Other programs set their own limits.
• Academics: meet the degree, subject, and grade conditions in the current program notice. There is no reliable universal scholarship GPA.
• Language: provide the IELTS, TOEFL, HSK, medium-of-instruction certificate, or other evidence the target program explicitly accepts. Details are in applying without IELTS.
• Documents: prepare passport, education, study-plan, recommendation, language, and medical documents where required, then follow the exact route checklist. Free formats are in the templates library.
• Country rules: some countries route Type A through a national body with its own tests and deadlines. Check your country guide.

Think in portfolios, not single bets:

1. Anchor on the CSC. Consider a Type A route if your country offers one and a carefully chosen Type B university where the current rules permit those applications. ANSO for research Master's and PhD in the sciences; MOFCOM if your government nominates; the language-teacher award if you are heading into Chinese teaching. 4. Keep a fallback. The self-funded route at a reasonably priced provincial university costs less than most people assume and keeps a scholarship transfer possible later.
