Provincial & City Government Scholarships

Many Chinese provinces and cities offer their own government scholarships to attract international students: for example the Beijing Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, Jiangsu Jasmine Scholarship, Zhejiang Government Scholarship, Guangdong Government Scholarship, and city scholarships in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Yiwu. General rules for provincial & city scholarships

  • Provincial scholarships are applied for THROUGH the host university: there is no separate national portal.
  • Deadlines usually align with the university's own admission deadlines, roughly 6–9 months before the September intake.
  • Reviews are typically rolling and favour early, complete applications.
  • They cannot be combined with the CSC (Chinese Government Scholarship), but can often be combined with a university's own scholarships.

FAQ

Can I apply for several scholarships at once?

Yes: you can generally apply for several different programs at once to maximise your chances. However, you cannot hold the CSC (Chinese Government Scholarship) together with provincial or city government scholarships at the same time. Always check each program's rules, as some awards cannot be combined.
