CSC Scholarship From Bangladesh: Type A + Type B Explained
By CSC Path Editorial, checked against official CSC and university sources.
Bangladesh's Type A route even includes round-trip airfare, but it's roughly 10 applicants per seat. Here's how both routes work, with this cycle's actual dates.
1.Route 1: the embassy/Type A route (with airfare!)
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka announced the 2026-27 CGS Type A call on December 19, 2025: bachelor's, master's, PhD and one-year Chinese language programs, applied via campuschina.org, deadline January 10, 2026, covering tuition, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance, a monthly allowance of about CNY 2,500–3,500, and, unusually, international round-trip airfare (official embassy announcement). Bangladesh's Ministry of Education has processed applications and final interviews with the embassy in past cycles (embassy notice); Bangladesh's Type A agency number is 0501 (community-documented by the Bangladesh-China Youth Student Association; see BCYSA).
2.How competitive is Type A from Bangladesh?
The embassy's own numbers: 2023-24 had ~500 applicants for 55 awards (~1 in 10), called the most competitive in three years (official); 2025-26 selected 80 (18 UG, 40 PG, 21 PhD, 1 senior scholar), and about 4,500 Bangladeshis have received the scholarship since 1981 (Prothom Alo). Historical priority: applicants with HSK certificates or Confucius Institute study experience (official notice).
3.Route 2: direct Type B applications
Apply straight to designated Chinese universities via campuschina.org with the university's agency number: no ministry nomination or embassy interview, more university choice, deadlines set per university (roughly January–April) (official framework; BCYSA Type B explainer). New for 2026/27 (both routes): a pre-admission document from the university (our letters guide) and, for bachelor's applicants, the CSCA exam (our CSCA guide). Running Type A + Type B in the same cycle is allowed and smart.
4.Document legalization from Bangladesh
Traditional chain per the Chinese Embassy: (1) notarization, (2) legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Division, (3) legalization by the Chinese side, with Bengali documents needing notarized-and-legalized English translations (embassy legalization page). Since April 11, 2024, ordinary-passport holders lodge legalization and visa applications through the Chinese Visa Center (CVC) Dhaka (3rd Floor, Praasad Trade Center, 6 Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani), not the embassy (official notice). Note: Bangladesh joined the Apostille Convention effective March 30, 2025; whether Chinese institutions accept Bangladeshi apostilles in place of the old chain isn't yet confirmed on the embassy's pages, so budget time for consular legalization. For the CSC application stage you upload notarized scans (diploma, transcripts, translations) plus a police clearance under 6 months old.
5.Visa from Dhaka
Scholarship winners download the admission notice and JW201 from the CSC system (official), then apply for the X1 at CVC Dhaka. The physical examination form (English, physician-signed, hospital-stamped, sealed photo, valid 6 months) is required for stays over 6 months (our form guide). After arrival: residence permit within 30 days.
6.Bangladesh-specific pitfalls + 2027-28 timeline
Pitfalls: the honours-vs-pass degree question (universities set their own rules on 3-year pass degrees for master's eligibility; confirm with the university before applying); Bengali-only documents always need notarized English translations; the concurrent-scholarship ban (concealment = 3-year reapplication bar); and the new pre-admission requirement means contacting universities well before the January deadline. Timeline pattern (2027-28 dates not yet announced): announcement ~mid-December 2026 → deadline ~January 2027 → MoE processing/interview → results June–August → CVC Dhaka visa → early-September departure. Start professor/pre-admission outreach by October 2026.
Both routes, the letters, and the January deadline sprint: our Full CSC Package ($700) runs it end-to-end; or map your odds first with the $50 shortlisting session.
