CSC Scholarship Uganda: 2026/27 Route and Next Steps

Uganda's 2026/27 call listed ten places across five fields. Its dates are closed, but the official record shows how nomination and university applications worked.
1.Is the Chinese Government Scholarship open in Uganda now?
The Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports call for the 2026/27 academic year closed on January 5, 2026. The ministry then published its shortlist and later-stage instructions. In August, the Chinese Embassy in Uganda reported an orientation for Ugandan students leaving under the Chinese Government Scholarship and MOFCOM Scholarship. These records confirm that the cycle progressed to selected students, but they do not open a new application window (2026/27 ministry call; embassy orientation).

2.Which programs and places were listed for 2026/27?
The ministry's one-page advert listed two places in each of five fields: PhD in Bio-Chemical Engineering, BSc Civil Engineering, BSc Water Engineering, MSc Statistics, and MSc Pharmacology. That is ten listed places in total. The opening sentence referred to master's and undergraduate study even though the field table also included a PhD program, so the field table and the exact next-cycle notice should be read together rather than generalized.
This was a restricted Uganda call, not a list of every degree available under CSC. A later cycle may change the levels, fields, or number of places. Use the new Uganda notice as the source for available programs rather than assuming that the five 2026/27 fields will repeat.
3.What eligibility rules did the Uganda call set?
For the 2026/27 call, undergraduate applicants needed at least a C in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and had to have completed A Level in 2023 or 2024. Master's applicants needed a relevant degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.60 and at least two years of relevant work experience. The advert set maximum ages of 25 for undergraduate applicants and 35 for master's applicants, then added a 40-year maximum in the same sentence. It also required a valid biometric passport and excluded people already admitted on a government scholarship or sponsorship (Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports advert).
Those are rules from one completed national call. They should not be treated as universal CSC eligibility or copied into a future application without a new notice.
4.How did applicants submit the first-stage application?
The ministry allowed applicants to use its application form or a handwritten application with a recent passport photograph. The file had to state the applicant's age, sex, course, home district, telephone number, and email address, with photocopies of academic certificates and transcripts. It was addressed to the Secretary of the Central Scholarships Committee and either delivered to the Department of Admissions, Scholarship and Students Affairs at Legacy Towers in Kampala or emailed to the address in the official advert.
The deadline was January 5, 2026, and the advert said the shortlist would be posted on January 9. These dates and delivery details are historical. A future applicant should use the form, address, email, and deadline in the new call rather than sending an unsolicited application to an old address.
5.What happened after the ministry shortlist?
The ministry's January shortlist instructed nominated candidates to begin online applications to Chinese universities immediately and gave January 30, 2026 as that stage's deadline. After submitting online, candidates had to print the application and return a copy to the ministry's Department of Admissions, Scholarships and Student Affairs at Legacy Towers (official shortlist instructions).
The shortlist expressly said that ministry nomination did not mean a scholarship award; the Government of China made the award decision. 6.Can Ugandan applicants also use a direct university route?
Some Chinese universities run separate Type B programs open to eligible international applicants. These are university-specific routes, not a substitute for following the Uganda ministry call. Chang'an University's 2026/27 Type B notice required applications in its own system and the CSC system, with two academic references, a research proposal for postgraduate applicants, a conditional acceptance letter, language evidence, and other listed documents (Chang'an University notice). Beihang University's 2026 Type B guide likewise required both university and CSC applications and used Beihang's own agency number and deadlines (Beihang University guide).
A direct Type B application must follow the target university's current program list, eligibility rules, deadline, and portal sequence. Completing the CSC form alone may not complete the university application. See the two-portal application guide before submitting.
7.How should I prepare for Uganda's next CSC cycle?
Monitor the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports scholarship page and the Chinese Embassy in Uganda rather than relying on social posts or the expired dates above. The previous embassy call opened on October 30, 2024 and closed on January 21, 2025, while the ministry's 2026/27 call closed on January 5, 2026. Prepare a valid passport, academic certificates and transcripts, and clear scans early. Do not obtain time-limited medical or police documents until the new schedule makes their validity safe. Current national CGS guidance includes passport, education records, language evidence, study or research plans, recommendation letters for specified postgraduate categories, the physical examination form, and a recent no-criminal-record certificate, but the Uganda call and chosen university can add or narrow requirements (current CGS bilateral guide).
