Guangdong Government Scholarship: 2026 Guide

1.Is the Guangdong Government Scholarship open now?
The 2026 application windows in the current host notices have closed. Guangdong University of Technology set a July 17 deadline, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies set July 5, and Shenzhen University's window for newly enrolled degree students ran from September 3 to September 5, 2026 (GDUT 2026 notice; GDUFS 2026 notice; Shenzhen University new-student guide).
The scheme is now in its decision stage at some universities. Southern University of Science and Technology published a proposed 2026 undergraduate recommendation list on September 10 and opened a three-working-day comment period through September 14 (SUSTech proposed list). That announcement is not a new application window. Check the chosen university's own notice rather than relying on a single province-wide deadline.
2.Is the Guangdong scholarship the same as CSC?
No. The Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship is a provincial award. Current university notices say the scheme was established by the Guangdong provincial government in 2013, and universities review or recommend candidates before provincial authorities confirm the final result (GDUT review process; Jinan University 2026 review notice).
The Chinese Government Scholarship is administered through the China Scholarship Council and follows its own Type A, Type B, or designated-program route. Do not combine the portals, deadlines, or scholarship conditions. Use the two-portal application guide when a university also requires a separate admission system.
3.Who can apply for the Guangdong scholarship?
Both new and current international degree students can appear in 2026 host rules, but the exact group depends on the university. GDUT accepts new degree applicants and current undergraduate or graduate students. Its new-applicant limits are under 30 for bachelor's study, under 35 for master's study, and under 40 for doctoral study. Its current-student route instead requires applicants to be under 40 and to meet academic and conduct checks (GDUT eligibility).
Do not copy those limits to every host. South China University of Technology lists a lower bachelor's age ceiling of 25, while keeping 35 for master's and 40 for doctoral applicants (SCUT eligibility). Jinan University's 2026 notice is only for continuing undergraduates who have completed at least one year, excluding freshmen and 2026 graduates (Jinan University eligibility). Check nationality, degree level, age, admission status, academic record, language evidence, current-student status, and restrictions on holding another government scholarship. 4.What does the Guangdong scholarship cover?
Several 2026 host notices publish the same award amounts: RMB 10,000 for a bachelor's student, RMB 20,000 for a master's student, and RMB 30,000 for a doctoral student. GDUT, GDUFS, and Shenzhen University each list those amounts (GDUT scholarship types; GDUFS scholarship amounts; Shenzhen University scholarship amounts).
These notices describe an award or one-time subsidy, not a universal full package of tuition, housing, insurance, and monthly living support. GDUFS says its award is transferred to the recipient's personal bank account at the end of December. Shenzhen University says its 2026 award is paid once to the recipient's personal Bank of China account by the end of the year. Confirm the amount, payment method, and what remains payable with the host notice before budgeting.
5.How do you apply through a Guangdong university?
There is no safe universal application sequence. GDUT's 2026 notice required applicants to complete the university's admission or registration process, use the correct scholarship form for new or current students, and email the form with supporting documents by its deadline (GDUT application procedure). GDUFS required new applicants to complete the online admission application and obtain confirmation from its admissions office before applying for the scholarship (GDUFS 2026 admissions notice).
Other hosts use different mechanics. SCUT says there is no separate scholarship application and selects candidates from self-funded applicants on merit (SCUT application procedure). Shenzhen University's continuing-student route used its College of International Exchange system, followed by school review and a paper submission (Shenzhen University continuing-student guide). Follow one host's current instructions from start to finish.
6.Which universities offer the Guangdong scholarship?
Current official pages confirm 2026 activity at Guangdong University of Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shenzhen University, Jinan University, South China University of Technology, and Southern University of Science and Technology (GDUT; GDUFS; Shenzhen University; Jinan University; SCUT; SUSTech).
This is evidence of host participation, not a complete list of places accepting applications for the next cycle. A university may limit the award to certain degree levels, new students, current students, or candidates already admitted through its regular process. Verify a current applicant notice before treating any institution as open.
7.How should I prepare for the next cycle?
Build a shortlist of Guangdong universities, then monitor each official international admissions and scholarship page. Record whether the route is for new or current students, the eligible degree levels, age rule, scholarship amount, admission prerequisite, application method, deadline, result channel, payment timing, and restriction on other funding. Do not use the 2026 dates as predicted 2027 deadlines.
Prepare durable records such as your passport and academic documents, but wait for the next notice before ordering time-limited records or paying for translations and authentication.
