Guangxi Scholarship for ASEAN Students: Full Guide

1.What is the Guangxi Government Scholarship for ASEAN Students?
Established in 2010 by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government to attract students from the ten ASEAN countries to Guangxi universities. Verified coverage (per Guangxi Medical University's official page): tuition, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance, textbooks, plus a stipend of ¥1,000/month (bachelor's), ¥1,500 (master's), ¥2,000 (PhD). Note the stipend is lower than CSC's, but so is Guangxi's cost of living.
2.Who can apply?
Citizens of ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Singapore) in good health; age norms 18–25 (bachelor's), ≤35 (master's), ≤40 (PhD); meeting the host university's academic and language requirements (Chinese-taught programs dominate, with HSK per university; English-taught options exist at some universities). Not stackable with other Chinese government scholarships.
3.How to apply: direct to the university
No embassy step: apply directly to a Guangxi university (online, no hard copies at GXMU), which nominates candidates to the Guangxi Department of Education. Verified example window: GXMU's cycle closed May 15 (official page); expect roughly February–May windows across universities, refreshed each winter. Strong candidates: apply to 2–3 Guangxi universities in parallel plus CSC Type B elsewhere.
4.Which universities, and why Guangxi?
Guangxi University (Nanning), Guangxi Medical University, Guangxi Normal University (Guilin), Guangxi University for Nationalities and others participate. Why consider it: proximity and flights to ASEAN, regional study options, and eligibility restricted to ASEAN citizens. 5.Guangxi vs CSC for ASEAN applicants
CSC pays more (¥2,500-3,500/month) and covers any province; Guangxi's award is regional and restricted to ASEAN citizens. Eligible applicants can research CSC Type B, Guangxi ASEAN and their country's bilateral CSC route (Indonesia guide), while confirming that simultaneous applications are allowed and accepting only one incompatible award.
