CSC Scholarship at Northwestern Polytechnical University: Application Guide

Scope: 2026/2027 intakes, international master's and doctoral applicants to Northwestern Polytechnical University through the CSC Chinese University Program (Type B), with fee and award detail drawn from the university's own fee-structure page and award notices. Round one 1 November 2026 to 31 December 2026; round two 1 January 2027 to 28 February 2027, both closing at 17:00 Beijing time and both open to master's and doctoral applicants only. Published 1 July 2026 — this is the next live cycle.

Xi'an scholarship rounds, 2026 intake

Undergraduate: 1 November 2025–15 January 2026, 16 January–15 March 2026, 16 March–15 April 2026, 20 April–20 May 2026. Master's and doctoral: 1 November 2025–15 January 2026, 16 January–28 February 2026, 1 March–31 March 2026, 1 April–30 April 2026, all at 17:00 Beijing time. Autumn (September) entry only. All closed.

Late-submission rule

A graduate application submitted after 15 January 2026 at 17:00 moves automatically to round two; after 28 February to round three; after 31 March to round four; and after 30 April 2026 at 17:00 is treated as automatically abandoned.

Preparatory student deadline

15 June 2026 for the autumn semester, for preparatory students on programmes longer than ten months

CNY 600, non-refundable ('600人民币（不予退还）'), charged across undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes and listed in its own 申请费 column of the university's fee table

Tuition per year

Undergraduate CNY 25,000 English-taught / CNY 22,000 Chinese-taught. Master's CNY 33,000 English-taught / CNY 30,000 Chinese-taught. Doctoral CNY 42,000 English-taught / CNY 38,000 Chinese-taught. Chinese language programme CNY 10,000 per semester or CNY 20,000 per year; foundation programme CNY 25,000 per year (zero-based) or CNY 15,000 per semester (improving).

Accommodation per year

CNY 5,400 triple room; CNY 7,200 or CNY 9,000 double room; CNY 10,800 single room

Insurance

CNY 800 or CNY 1,000 per year per the fee table; the CSC Type B notice values comprehensive medical insurance at CNY 800 per person per year, or CNY 400 per person for study periods under six months

CSC Type B award coverage

Full scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance; a partial scholarship covers one or several of those components. Tuition waiver, free dormitory or an accommodation subsidy, and a monthly living allowance of CNY 3,000 for master's students and CNY 3,500 for doctoral students, paid monthly by the university. Living allowance is paid in full for students registering on or before the 15th of a month and half for those registering later; it is suspended for personal absences from China exceeding 15 days outside normal holidays.

CSC Type B application route and major restriction

Applicants must apply through NPU's own international student management system at admission.nwpu.edu.cn; a Type B application not submitted through that system will not be accepted. The programme carries a major restriction — applicable majors are those marked with an asterisk on the university's admissions-majors list. Candidates then complete the CSC online application at campuschina.org and supply their application serial number to NPU's admissions office.

Selection process

Two rounds of document review plus an interview and broader ability assessment. NPU issues pre-admission materials to candidates recommended for the Type B programme, then submits recommended lists and materials to the China Scholarship Council in batches; the CSC organises qualification and academic review and determines admissions, and NPU notifies candidates of the result.

Xi'an 'Belt and Road' Foreign Students Scholarship tiers

First prize waives tuition and accommodation plus a monthly stipend (undergraduate CNY 1,500 per month for 12 months; master's CNY 2,000; doctoral CNY 3,500). Second prize waives tuition plus CNY 1,500/2,000/3,500 per month for 10 months. Third prize waives 50% of tuition plus the same monthly stipend for 10 months. A preparatory-student tier pays CNY 1,000 per month for 10 months, excluding tuition and accommodation. It is a first-year, new-student scholarship only, subject to an annual comprehensive review.

Xi'an scholarship eligibility

Applicants must be in good physical and mental health, meet the age ceilings of 23 (undergraduate), 30 (master's) and 35 (doctoral) as of 1 September 2026, hold the corresponding prior qualification, and have a previous-stage average of 75% or above. Undergraduate applicants must also submit a CSCA test score. Ethnic Chinese applicants who acquired foreign nationality must have done so and cancelled Chinese nationality before 30 April 2022, with two years of actual residence abroad between 30 April 2022 and 30 April 2026.

Entry requirements

Language: Applicants must meet NPU's admission requirements in language ability for the programme concerned; the Type B notice refers applicants to the master's and doctoral programme pages for the detail. Chinese-taught programmes are assessed on Chinese proficiency and English-taught programmes on English proficiency, per those programme pages.. Age: For the Xi'an 'Belt and Road' Foreign Students Scholarship, as of 1 September 2026 undergraduate applicants must be no older than 23, master's applicants no older than 30 and doctoral applicants no older than 35.. Required degree: For the Xi'an 'Belt and Road' Foreign Students Scholarship, as of 1 September 2026 undergraduate applicants must hold a senior high school graduation certificate, master's applicants a bachelor's degree and doctoral applicants a master's degree. Undergraduate applicants need a previous-stage average of 75% or above and must submit a CSCA test score, with SAT, A-Level and IB results accepted as supplementary evidence; master's and doctoral applicants also need a previous-stage average of 75% or above.
