- Westlake University is not a Chinese Government Scholarship host institution and publishes no CSC agency number; its international doctoral students are funded through its own Westlake University doctoral fellowship rather than a CSC route.
- Application deadline
- Fall 2027 entry runs in two rounds. Round 1 opened 10 October 2026 at 10 am and closes 31 October 2026 at 10 am for Physics, Chemistry, Quantitative Biology and Complex Systems, Biology and Biomedical Sciences, and closes 9 November 2026 at 10 am for Electronic Science & Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Information Technology in Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability Science and Technology. Mathematics and Multiscale Astrophysics are printed as not open in round 1. Every second round is published as "To be announced". Historical Fall 2026 dates: most programmes opened on either 20 October or 17-18 November 2025 and closed their first round on 17 November 2025 or 5 January 2026, with a second round closing between 16 and 31 March 2026.

- Westlake charges no application fee: the official application procedure states verbatim "Note: Application fee is waived for this year's applicants".

- Doctoral tuition is 40,000 CNY per year for Westlake University programmes and 37,000 CNY per year for joint university programmes, with full or partial tuition waivers available; accommodation is 1,800 or 2,200 CNY per year for a single room and insurance is 800 CNY per year.
- Tuition
- Westlake doctoral fellowships and scholarships total more than 85,000 RMB per year before tax, and the university states it provides financial support covering tuition, on-campus room and board, insurance premiums and other living costs.
- Language requirement
- International doctoral applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health holding a bachelor's degree in a related subject, and must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Two official Westlake pages publish different minimum scores, and both are reported here rather than reconciled silently. The live Fall 2027 admissions page prints, in its Application Documents list, "(CET 6; IELTS 6.0 or above; Or TOEFL 90 or above)". A separate doctoral FAQ page carries a "Language Tests / Min. Requirements" table reading "IELTS 6.5 overall" and "TOEFL iBT 90 overall". Both pages offer the same three ways to satisfy the requirement: English as a first language, an official TOEFL or IELTS score, or a Letter of English Proficiency where a previous degree was taught in English. Confirm the applicable threshold with the admissions office before relying on either figure.

- The Fall 2027 round-1 timetable lists eleven rows: Mathematics (joint with Fudan University), Physics, Chemistry, Quantitative Biology and Complex Systems, Multiscale Astrophysics, Electronic Science & Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Information Technology in Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability Science and Technology, Biology and Biomedical Sciences. The page's own eligibility note refers to "the joint Ph.D. program in Mathematics" plus "all other 8 PhD programs", so the page does not reconcile its table rows with that count; both are reported here as published and no total is asserted.

- The application requires a personal statement of more than 1,500 words in English, notarised degree certificates and transcripts, two recommendation letters from professors or equivalent, and a passport that must be an ordinary one and should not expire before 31 December 2027.

- Applicants to the joint Ph.D. programme in Mathematics may apply with a master's degree, while applicants to the other eight programmes may apply with either a bachelor's or a master's degree.
